PROVEN DESIGN
The AMERICAN WOOD DRYERS’ single and double track kilns incorporate unique, proven design features no longer found in other kilns. And you’ll get important new features not yet adopted by anyone else. That same kiln design is available with either all-aluminum or steel frame construction. Top of Page

Kilns grow and shrink in response to temperature changes. Many years ago, nearly all kiln manufacturers recognized the benefits of making formed angle panels to accommodate these changes within the panels themselves, instead off at joints where flexing could cause joints to open.

Today, only AMERICAN continues to provide these special, hand made panels, some with as many as three surfaces, both sides! In AMERICAN steel frame track kilns, all panel joints are made between adjoining flat surfaces. Eaves, gable ends, ridges arid corners are all formed panels. Top of Page

SEAL CLIPS A LOST ART
The ALCLAD aluminum panels, including the formed panels, are supported in a framework of 4" wide internal and external clamping extrusions. These are fastened to their respective girts and purlins with tie straps and galvanic isolators. Where the clamping extrusions intersect to form rectangular panel frames, special hand made seal clips are used to ensure complete sealed coverage of the underlying panel joint. Look for them-they are important! If you have an AMERICAN kiln, they’re there! Top of Page

WHAT IS ALCLAD?
Click image for larger viewALCLAD - this designation is given to aluminum when it has a metallurgically bonded coating of 99% pure aluminum on both sides, which is both highly resistant to corrosion and anodic to the core alloy it covers. The cladding physically and electrolytically protects the core aluminum from corrosion in the same way galvanizing protects steel.

All panel skins in all AMERICAN kilns are furnished in ALCLAD aluminum-this is standard. Top of Page

FAN SYSTEMS
72" diameter, adjustable pitch reversible airfoil propellers are standard. Drive configurations include direct motor driven (cross shaft), lineshafts, and external drive extended shafts on bearing beams.

AWD proprietary kiln duty motors are available from 7 1/2 to 30hp, 900 rpm, and include Telfon® insulated motor cable with sealed penetration fittings at the perimeter of the kiln.

For high temperature, or maximum air flow, external drives can be fitted with up to 50hp per fan. Top of Page

WORLD’S STRONGEST FAN DECK
Click image for larger viewNothing feels more spooky than bouncing on the thin sheet metal of a flimsy fan deck!

In AMERICAN steel frame track kilns, we provide stiff 8" wide, 16 gauge, "C" sections (metal building purlins) tacked together, mounted with the toes down-Solid as a rock! In the all-aluminum track kilns, formed aluminum channels are used.

There is also an outside access door at fan deck level for direct entry-no more climbing over the heating coils! Top of Page

MOTOR CONTROLS
A prewired motor starter panel is furnished for each kiln, complete with a magnetic reversing starter, individual motor indicating overload and short circuit protection, and a disconnect switch.

A separate low voltage control: panel is furnished for up to three kilns. Each kiln is provided with an On-Off-Vent switch; Vent-Forward-Reverse indicating lights; EPROM-driven PLC for all timing and switching functions; Auto-Dynamic reversing switch; manual fan speed controller; digital percent speed and load readouts*.
*Applicable only when fan speed controllers are purchased. When our Drystar® Computer System is purchased the PLC is eliminated. These functions are included in the Drystar system. Top of Page

HEATING SYSTEMS
Uniform heating is essential to good kiln drying! To achieve this we provide only short coils (none over 10’ long), with bimetallic fin pipe (aluminum/ steel or aluminum/stainless), an individual steam trap for each coil unit, and modulating steam control valves with position feedback.

Most modern double track kilns are piped with individual zones for the overhead, top booster and bottom booster coils (3 zones per section) to provide heat just where it is needed for uniform drying. The number of additional lengthwise zones depends on total kiln length.

Thermal Oil, High Pressure Hot Water and Direct-Fired heating systems are also available. Top of Page

KILN CONTROLS
A variety of electronic control systems are available, from a basic set point controller with multichannel electronic recorder to the most sophisticated computer system with graphical operator interface (mouse driven), DELMHORST moisture measuring systems, and remote modem communications.

Separate bulletins are available for each of the control systems. Top of Page
